Home Fellowship Groups
What are Home Fellowship Groups
By Pastor Mike Jacobson
A Home Fellowship group is a gathering of 10-16 people who meet weekly to share, study God's Word and support one another. Home Fellowship Groups help promote and develop relationships with God and one another. The groups meet for three, 10-week sessions from late September through June, taking a break during the summer months. A person can participate in one group session or all three. There will be prepared leaders and a host for each group, and the fellowship time will last about an hour and a half, followed by light refreshments.
The following are some common questions people have about Home Fellowship Groups:
When and Where Do They Meet?
Home Fellowship Groups will meet on various nights of the week in homes throughout the area. Most evening groups meet 7-8:30 pm.
How Do I Sign Up For A Home Fellowship Group?
There will be four or five small groups offered this fall. Before each Growth Group quarter begins there will be a two or three-week period where small groups can be signed up for. There will be people available at the sign-up table to help you choose a group and answer any questions.
How Do I Choose A Group?
When selecting a group, we strongly recommend you choose a group based on its leader-host team and station-in-life, rather than its location. Groups do best when members share a common Station-in-Life and other interests with their leaders, hosts, and other group members (Young Families, Empty Nesters, Parents of Teens, etc). In the end, you'll find it's worth the drive! Mixing up age groups can have its advantages as well.
Who will lead the Home Fellowship Groups?
At this point, most of the groups will be led by one of our Elders. As the ministry grows, other group leaders will be added. Training sessions will be offered at various times.
How Long Do They Last?
Each Home Fellowship Group session lasts from 9 to 11 weeks. We have Fall, Winter & Spring sessions. At the end of each session, you will have the choice of staying in the same group, trying a new group or even taking a break. Most groups stay together throughout the entire year. Growth Groups do not meet June through August.
What is the Commitment?
The success of these groups depends on the commitment of its individual members; therefore we are asking each person who signs up to commit to the 9-11week duration. Obviously, things come up and you may have to miss a gathering, but generally speaking it works best when everyone is consistent. You have the first three weeks to attend the group to make sure it's a good fit for you.
What Will We Study?
Most of the groups will use a sermon-based curriculum. A sermon-based curriculum is simply scriptural material taken from the previous weekend's message that has been put into questions for easy discussion. The sermons and discussion questions will be available on the church web-site so you are able to prepare ahead of time.
What About Child Care?
Home Fellowship Groups are primarily for adults. Some groups can work out childcare at the home they meet in or for some, it works best for families to share a sitter or to swap childcare with another family whose group meets on a different evening. If a group met on Wednesday Night (in a home close to the church) One-way club could serve as the child-care for the evening.
Are There Growth Groups for Teenagers?
Yes, our Student Ministries offer small groups for students. They meet on Wednesday night from 7:00-8:15 pm.
